Overview

The Faculty of Information and Communication Technologies offers a variety of special pathways programs designed for students with a relevant post-secondary qualification (particularly a TAFE diploma or advanced diploma) to allow entry into Swinburne ICT courses usually with exemptions from the first or second year of the degree.

Credit Transfer Guidelines

Swinburne's Faculty of ICT have developed guidelines to give students an understanding of the credit exemptions they can expect to receive when articulating from a relevant TAFE course into a Swinburne ICT degree. TAFE Pathways into ICT at Swinburne

Whilst applications are welcome from any technically focused TAFE diploma, special credit transfer arrangements are provided for the following programs:

 

Degree Programs in ICT

The Faculty of ICT offers a wide range of courses including Business Information Systems, Network Design and Security, Professional Software Development and Telecommunications and Network Engineering.

The Faculty also offers a Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology that offers TAFE graduates a maximum of 12 exemptions (or 1.5 years) off the degree. This is a flexible degree and gives students the opportunity to choose a specialisation in: Information Systems, Network Design and Security, Software Development and Multimedia Games Development.

At Swinburne, we are committed to offering programs that address the needs of industry, and prepare our students for challenging employment and career development. We constantly review our courses, through the involvement of our Industry Advisory Committees, and regularly introduce new subjects that address the issues and technologies that are evidently being widely adopted in industry.

 

Admission Requirements

Applicants must have completed an appropriate TAFE qualification or equivalent in ICT or Business. An average score of at least 60% is generally required.

These pathways are also available to international students with an equivalent qualification.

 

Application Procedure

Local and international Swinburne TAFE students, may apply for degree studies without having to apply through VTAC. Further information and application forms visit our Direct Entry website.

For students not applying via Direct Entry, applications for Faculty of ICT degree programs must be made through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC). For further information, visit the VTAC website. Students will need to complete a Swinburne "Application for Exemptions Form" and must have evidence of completion of their previous course/program.

Early round offers will be available for all Faculty of ICT courses.

 

Professional Recognition

Programs are accredited by the register of Australia Tertiary Awards (ATA) and the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).

Swinburne IT qualifications are accredited at Professional Level with the Australian Computer Society and our telecommunication engineering degrees are accredited by Engineers Australia. This means that the courses are externally vetted to ensure they meet the highest standards of the profession and industry.

 

Industry Based Learning

All eligible students have the option of participating in an Industry Based Learning program which is Swinburne’s strongest commitment to assisting students to be ‘work-ready’ when graduating.
