Course Description

The program comprises studies in programming, databases, networking and project management with a particular focus on web and software development.

This program is a two year program of study that allows graduates to either enter the workforce or continue on to further study.

Upon successful completion of the first-year units, students will be eligible to apply for credit transfer or to undertake an RPL assessment to gain all or part credit towards an appropriate VET Diploma

After successfully completing the first year, students complete a further eight units to complete this associate degree. Students who complete the associate degree are eligible for a guaranteed place into the final year of the Bachelor of Applied Information and Communication Technology (Hawthorn Campus).

The program comprises studies in programming, databases, networking and project management with a particular focus on web and software development.


Aims and Objectives

At completion of this associate degree, graduates will be expected to:

  • Select and apply methods and technologies to design, program and test software and web applications
  • Use contemporary software development process models in the development of software solutions
  • Apply principles of user-centered design to contribute to the development of usable interfaces
  • Select and use appropriate computer languages to solve software-related problems in a variety of problem domain
  • Use communication and management skills required to manage small-scale projects successfully
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the social, legal and ethical issues confronting the ICT professional

Career Outcomes

There are a large number of job roles available for those with applied ICT qualifications and experience in web and software development.  Some roles may include: application developer, project manager, multimedia developer, mobile application developer.


Entry Requirements

Successful completion of an appropriate Victorian Year 12 or its equivalent, such as an interstate or international Year 12 qualification.

VCE Prerequisites: Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 20 in English (any).


Program Structure

To qualify for the award of Associate Degree of Applied Information and Communication Technology, students must complete the prescribed 16 units (200 credit points).  There are no electives or options in this program.
